Many people – children and adults alike – enjoy the children’s sermon’s at St. Andrew’s. Holding to our motto – “A Faith for All Ages” – St. Andrew’s is not a place where we ask you to “check your children at the door”.
We believe that families ought to worship together, and that children should feel that church is for them, and that they can participate in all the same aspects of church as their parents do.

This is why we have the children stay in for the first part of the service, up until the first Scripture reading. Just before that, Father Mike calls the children up to the front for a children’s sermon. “I want to be sure to have time to teach the children, as well as the grown ups. I want them to feel like I’m their Pastor, that they can come to me with their thoughts and questions”, Mike says.

Father Mike’s children sermons are famous for the adventures of him and his Golden Retriever “Dolly”. While out on walks in the neighborhood they might encounter:

  • Grumpy Frumpy – who always sees the negative sides of things
  • Pouty Frouty – who always seems like life in not fair
  • Happy Lappy – who is always happy!
  • Fibby Libby – who seems to have trouble telling the truth
  • Rude Jude - who, well, is rude!

The children’s sermons are always tied to the lesson the children will learn in children’s chapel, which they go to after the children’s sermon. The group always comes back at offertory time, so they can be with their families for Communion.

At every St. Andrew’s service, a nursery is provided throughout the service for children up to age four.

We hope you – and your children – will join us at St. Andrew’s soon!
