Our History

groundbreakingSt. Andrew’s came into being through the vision and commitment of the Diocese of Dallas, its Bishop, The Rt. Rev. James Stanton and the Church Planting Commission of the Diocese of Dallas.  In May of 2005, they called the Rev. Mike Michie, who was then Vicar of Christ the King Episcopal Church in Houston, to be the founding Vicar.  Rev. Michie, his wife Laurie, and three daughters, Kellie, Jennifer and Mariana moved from Houston to McKinney in August of 2005.

From August 2005 to February 2006, the Michie’s were graciously hosted and nurtured by the people of St. Philip’s, Frisco, and their Rector, The Rev. Clay Lein.  During that time, plans for the church were formulated, the name “St. Andrew’s” was approved by Bishop Stanton, and we collected our first “launch team” members.  In February 2006, St. Andrew’s held its first worship services.  The church soon moved to the aerobics studio of the McKinney Family YMCA, and when it outgrew that, to the gymnasium.  Taking most of 2006 to plan and grow, St. Andrew’s had it public “launch” on November 5, 2006.

From its twelve members in February 2006 to now, the church has grown to well over 300 members.  Thanks to the vision of the Diocese of Dallas, St. Andrew’s has over 11 acres of property on McKinney Ranch Road, just west of Ridge Road. Our first worship services in our new, 9500 square foot facility were in January 2012. The first phase includes a dual purpose sanctuaryand parish hall, kitchen, classrooms, nursery and office space. Future plans include a permanent sanctuary and an education building.
